Vinnie Albanese was a small but speedy guard for Syracuse basketball for three seasons.
Albanese was a reserve his sophomore year, playing in half of the games. He would be part of the regular rotation his junior season, and would back up Ron Gillespie and Jim Brown.
Albanese would become the starting point guard his senior year, helping guide the Orangemen to their first NCAA tournament bid. Syracuse relied on the scoring of the Vinnie Cohen and the big men; it was Albanese and Manny Breland's job to get them the ball. Albanese was considered one of the fastest players on the court, and was a pesky defender. He was also known for being a great decision maker with his passing.[1]
Albanese was in the Air Force following graduation from Syracuse. He was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base and played basketball there.
