Tim Byrnes was a standout lacrosse player for Syracuse, earning four varsity letters. He scored 15 goals and had 22 points his senior year for the Orangemen lacrosse team as they won the 2000 NCAA National Championship.

Tim Byrnes would decide to go to graduate school at Syracuse and was a walk-on guard for Syracuse basketball for one season. He played in six games for eleven minutes. He did not score, but he did pull down three rebounds.

Byrnes would play eight years in Major League Lacrosse, and would be an MLL All-Star. He played for the Boston Cannons from 2002-2005, Long Island Lizards in 2001 and 2006, and the Philadelphia Barrage from 2007-2008.
