Sean Williams was a center for Syracuse basketball. He came as a 6'11" unskilled player with a tremendous wingspan and was labeled a project.
Williams was not a significant player in high school or prep school, despite his size. Syracuse signed him with the hope that he would develop skills and strength to go along with his impressive size and reach. Coach Jim Boeheim had planned on red-shirting Williams his freshman season. However, with the roster depleted due to injuries, suspensions, and players quitting, Williams was pressed into action. It was quickly evident that he was not ready to play even for a few minutes a game, and he would play only four games his freshman year.
Williams did not progress much between his freshman and sophomore year. He did play twelve games, but saw less playing time then all the walk-on players. He would transfer to Cal-State Fullerton after his sophomore season. He would sit out the 2009-2010 season due to transfer rules, and was academically ineligible for the following season, his junior year. He would never play for Cal-State.
Williams was the son of former Harlem Globetrotter Sean "Elevator" Williams. The senior Williams was known for his outstanding ability to leap high and dunk in baskets nearly 12' off the ground.
