Richie Manning was a reserve center for Syracuse basketball for two seasons. Manning was a fundamentally sound player with good shooting skills, and was a solid free throw shooter.
Manning was a valuable reserve his two seasons, backing up Derrick Coleman at center his freshman year, and then Coleman and LeRon Ellis his sophomore year. Unhappy with his playing time, and the perception that he was going to have a tough time being a starter his junior year, along with being homesick for the West coast, Manning transferred to the University of Washington after his sophomore year.
Manning would become a star player for the Huskies in the 1991-92, and 1992-93 seasons, scoring 16.8 points and 17.9 points respectively. Manning would score 933 points in his two years as a Huskie. He would be named to the First Team All PAC-10 in 1993.
Manning would be drafted in the 2nd round of the 1993 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, with the 43rd overall pick. The Hawks would waive him before the season began, but would play part of two seasons for the Vancouver Grizzlies (1996 and 1997), and part of the 1997 season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
