Ray Balukas was a reserve guard for Syracuse basketball for two seasons. He had received no scholarship offers coming out of high school until he had in impressive performance in the Florida North/South All-Star game after his senior year, despite averaging 28.5 ppg his last season.[1]
Balukas had the unenviable position, in February 1968, of having to help guard Niagara star Calvin Murphy. Despite Balukas, Bob Clary and John Suder all taking rotations at guarding Murphy, he would put up 50 points against the Orangemen.
Balukas did not return to play basketball for Syracuse his senior season.
