Gus Castellini was a guard for Syracuse University for three seasons. Castellini was known for his unusual set shot; he held the ball over his head instead of in front of his face. He was considered an excellent shooter with long range [1]. Castellini would play basketball at Solvay High School, and would set the then Onondaga County League career scoring record with 1,004 points (since broken).
Castellini was one of the top reserves for Syracuse his sophomore year. The arrival of Vinnie Cohen and Jim Brown his junior year would result in decreased playing time for him his junior and senior seasons.
