The Syracuse Orangemen and Utica Pioneers first met in 1983, with the Orangemen winning 99-71. The two schools met for four straight seasons, with the last game in 1985-1986.
Utica College ceased playing Division I basketball after the 1986-1987 season. Former Syracuse Nationals great Larry Costello was the only head coach Utica College ever had as a Division I program.
Utica College was formed in 1946 by Syracuse University and was fully an extension of Syracuse until 1995. In 2011, Utica College started offering bachelor degrees separate from Syracuse University.
