The Syracuse Orangemen and Oral Roberts Golden Eagles first met in the first round of the 1974 NCAA Tournament. Syracuse had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Rudy Hackett missed both of his free throw attempts with seven seconds on the clock, sending the game into overtime. Two Syracuse stars, Dennis DuVal, who led both teams in scoring with 28 points, and Fred Saunders would foul out in overtime. The Golden Eagles would win in overtime 86-82.
