The Syracuse Orangemen and New Mexico Lobos first met in the first round of the 1967 NIT Tournament. The Lobos would win a close game 66-64.
The two teams would met ten years later in 1977, with the Orangemen winning 96-91. They would then met eleven years later in the 2nd round of the 1998 NCAA Tournament with the Orangemen winning 56-46.
The two teams have not played since 1998.
