The Syracuse Orangemen and Lehigh Engineers first met in 1923. The teams have met five times with the Orangemen winning all five games.
The two teams did not face each other for nearly 84 years between 1931 and 2015. Lehigh changed the team nickname from Engineers to Mountain Hawks beginning in the 1995-1996 season.
The teams were scheduled to play in 2021 but the game had to be canceled due to several Syracuse players contracting Covid-19.
