The Syracuse Orangemen and Holy Cross Crusaders first met in 1949. The two teams would play most seasons from 1952 through 1962, and then again from 1970 to 1973. Holy Cross beat Syracuse five straight times from 1968 to 1972, and once lead the series 12-8. The Orange have won the last seven games in the series.
The two teams last met in 2016.
Holy Cross head coach Ralph Willard was an assistant under Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim from 1986-1987. Boeheim and the Orange beat Willard and the Crusaders in 2006.
