The Syracuse Orangemen and Clemson Tigers first met in 1960. The two teams did not play again for 46 years, until they met in the quarterfinals of the 2007 NIT tournament. Clemson held a 2-0 edge over Syracuse before the Orange joined the ACC.
Former Orange player Joe Girard would lead Clemson to a 77-68 victory over Syracuse in 2024 with 18 points on 4-5 three point shooting. Girard would score 21 points on 4-7 three point shooting in the second matchup, again a loss for the Orange.
