The Syracuse Orangemen and the City College of New York (CCNY) Beavers met annually from 1919 to 1923, and again from 1945 to 1950. The two teams split the first series 4-4, while CCNY won the second series 4-1. CCNY beat Syracuse five straight games from 1923 to 1949. The two teams last met in 1950.

CCNY was caught up in a point shaving scandal that involved 33 players and seven schools, and in 1951 arrests were made. CCNY would de-emphasize its basketball program, dropping it down to Division III.
