Carter Sanderson was a walk-on guard for Syracuse University. He joined the team as a graduate student with a year left of athletic eligibility.
Sanderson played three years at Lipscomb University at guard. He scored a career high 21 points against Belmont his junior season.

Sanderson is the grandson of former University of Alabama head coach Wimp Sanderson (1981-1992), and he played for his father Scott Sanderson at Lipscomb, where he was head coach for 14 seasons (1999-2013).
