Chris McCullough was a forward on the Syracuse University basketball team for one season. He was highly recruited out of high school and there came high expectations with his arrival.
McCullough's freshman year started off well. He had 16 points and 11 rebounds in his debut against Kennesaw State, and would score in double digits in the first eight games, three times having ten or more rebounds. He would then start to struggle as teams started pushing him around, and he failed to score more than seven points in any of the next eight games. McCullough would fall during the first half of the Florida State game and tear his ACL, ending his freshman season.
McCullough would surprise many when he announced in April of his freshman year that he was entering the NBA draft, despite having recent surgery on his torn ACL. He would be drafted in the 1st round with the 29th overall pick by the Brooklyn Nets.
