Syracuse would meet the #2 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in the NCAA Elite Eight.
Syracuse would dominate North Carolina on the boards, beating them 42 to 32 on rebounds. The Orangemen would lead 41-30 at the end of the first half. Carolina would battle back in the second half with the Orangemen winning 79-75.
Syracuse's Rony Seikaly would have a big game with 26 points and 11 rebounds, making 11 of his 15 shots attempts. Freshman Derrick Coleman would have 14 rebounds, including 7 offensive boards.
Dean Smith was the coach for the Tar Heels.
