Griffin would transfer to Syracuse and was granted immediate eligibility to play. He would move into the started lineup the second game of the season after Bourama Sidibe injured his knee. Griffin would lead the team in scoring for the first half of the season, demonstrating a knack for streaky shooting and high scoring outputs. Griffin showed he was a solid three point threat, and a good rebounder for a small forward. He had a terrific knack for blocking shots from the weak side of the zone defense, and the highlight of his season was a game saving block as time expired against Buffalo. Griffin was inconsistent on defense, and that started to cost him playing time as the season wore on. He saw reduced playing time in the post season, scoring only 8 points in the last four games. He was nevertheless a big contributor to the Orange that season with four games with 10+ rebounds, and eight games with 20+ points. He made honorable mention All ACC, and led the Orange in blocked shots.
Griffin's father Adrian Griffin played in the NBA for nine seasons.
